The First Tennessee Human Resource Agency (FTHRA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people of Northeast Tennessee through the effective delivery of social services. One of our key initiatives, the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), addresses a critical issue: childhood hunger during the summer months.
Why We Do This Program:
During the school year, many children rely on free or reduced-price meals provided through the National School Lunch Program. However, when school is out for the summer, these children often face food insecurity. Studies show that children are at a higher risk of hunger during the summer months, which can impact their health, development, and ability to learn. The SFSP is designed to bridge this gap, ensuring that children continue to receive nutritious meals even when school is not in session.
FTHRA's Commitment to Combating Hunger:
At FTHRA, we are committed to supporting our community in every way possible. The SFSP aligns with our mission by providing essential services that enhance the well-being of children and families. By delivering nutritious meals to children in Carter, Hawkins, and Unicoi counties, we are helping to alleviate the hunger crisis and promote healthier, more resilient communities.

How This Fits Into FTHRA's Mission:
The SFSP is more than just a meal distribution program; it is a lifeline for many families in our community. By providing reliable access to nutritious food, we are not only addressing immediate hunger but also supporting the overall health and well-being of children. This program reflects our broader commitment to creating an environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, take responsibility for themselves and their community, and achieve a sense of self-worth and productivity.
Join Us in Our Mission:
We invite community members, partners, and stakeholders to support this vital program. Together, we can make a significant impact on reducing childhood hunger and ensuring that every child in Northeast Tennessee has the nourishment they need to grow, learn, and succeed.
