Warmth, Compassion, and Generosity: Foster Grandparents Spread Holiday Cheer Across Northeast TN

As the holiday season unfolded, the Foster Grandparent Program at FTHRA embraced the spirit of giving in a heartwarming initiative that touched lives across our community. The dedicated Foster Grandparents, volunteers aged 55 and older from all backgrounds, utilized their skilled hands and compassionate hearts in a project that truly warmed both bodies and souls.

With nimble fingers and a sense of purpose, the Foster Grandparents crafted 51 cozy blankets, each a testament to their commitment to spreading warmth and comfort. These handmade blankets became tokens of care and compassion, destined for distribution to those in need.

In a beautiful display of community support, the Foster Grandparents donated these blankets to three distinguished organizations—Brookdale Senior Living, Morning Point Senior Living, and Signature Health—enriching the lives of residents and providing a source of warmth during the winter months.

But their generosity didn't stop there. The Foster Grandparents extended their caring touch to NET Trans, creating 8 special blankets that were included in holiday gift baskets. These thoughtful bundles, complete with cards and letters written by Brooke Ramsey’s 4th-grade class at Mosheim Elementary School, were crafted to bring joy and comfort to a few selected clients in each of our counties—Carter, Greene, Johnson, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Washington, and Unicoi.

This initiative beautifully aligns with the Foster Grandparent Program's mission, which focuses on providing mentorship and one-on-one support to children in Greene County Schools in Greeneville. Their dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others is truly inspiring.

The Foster Grandparent Program not only showcases the incredible talents of our seniors but also exemplifies the essence of community and intergenerational connections. Their dedication to improving academic and social development in children is a testament to the lasting impact of mentorship and support.

This holiday gesture from the Foster Grandparents serves as a reminder that a small act of kindness can create ripples of joy and warmth throughout the community. FTHRA extends heartfelt gratitude to the Foster Grandparent Program for their generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to making Northeast TN a better place.
